Scientists from the French partner university UBS and Aschaffenburg UAS met for a professional dialogue

At the end of the summer semester 2022, Aschaffenburg University of Applied Sciences welcomed guests from the partner university Université Bretagne Sud (UBS). Prof. Dr. Holger Paschedag, Vice President for Studies, Teaching and International Affairs, welcomed Prof. Dr. Christine Chauvin, Vice President for International Affairs, and her colleague Prof. Dr. Hervé Laurent, Head of the Department of Mechatronics, from Brittany to UAS Aschaffenburg and showed them around the campus. Subsequently, the guests spoke with various university members during the two days of their stay about joint research projects and about further developing teaching cooperation. Already in January 2021, researchers from both universities had collected initial ideas for possible cooperation projects during the virtually organised "International Research Days", which have now been deepened.

Possibilities for cooperation in research and teaching discussed

Professor Laurent discussed possibilities for cooperating regarding the topic of autonomous driving and the research focus on materials with Prof. Dr Galia Weidl, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Konrad Doll, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Simon Pauly and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christiane Thielemann He discussed possible teaching cooperation in the field of mechatronics with Prof. Dr Georg Wegener.

Professor Chauvin exchanged views with Prof. Dr. Alexandra Angress, International Officer of the Faculty of Business and Law (WR), and Prof. Dr. Renate Link, Deputy Scientific Director of the Language Centre, on further cooperation opportunities in the Faculty of Business and Law. The three professors worked out ideas and initiatives: developing a double degree in International Business, initiating English-language course offerings, an ERASMUS lecturer exchange to develop joint English-language modules, and the continuation of the ERASMUS BIP 2023 in France.

The areas of teaching and research are brought together by the Research Master's degree programmes, the core of which is a student research project. With Professor Thielemann, Professor Rötzel and Research Officer Dr. Heike Bruhn, the two teachers from France discussed whether the existing Research Masters could be expanded into double degrees.

The meeting, which Alexandra Angress and Heike Bruhn prepared and implemented with regard to content, promoted a constructive exchange between the researchers and further strengthened the ties with the partner university. Both the guests and those involved at the university summed up the two days together as very successful and took away many inspiring opportunities for cooperation.
